Think Brick Australia, the body representing Australia’s clay brick and paver manufacturers, is calling for votes to identify Australia’s most innovative architect. The winning architect or practice will be awarded the Think Brick Australia About Face Peer Award for 2009.
The prestigious About Face competition is all about exploring the possibilities for building with brick and using that material to create innovative solutions to specific design problems. '¨'¨
Each year, six practices known for their commitment to innovation and research are invited to respond to a brief. In 2009 the focus is on “socially responsive architecture”.
This year’s entrants are Owen & Vokes, Minifie Nixon Architects, CODA, DRAW, Marsh Cashman Kooloos and Paul Morgan Architects. They’ve all submitted their responses to the brief and the awards have entered the judging stage.
Because the About Face Peer Award is decided by peer voting, Think Brick Australia is inviting Australia’s architects to visit the awards site at aboutfaceawards.com.au to review the entries and vote for the one they feel best answers the brief. '¨'¨
To aid the deliberations, each entry has been presented as a total package including a design statement, drawings and downloadable plans.
The awards will be presented on the 24th September in Sydney at a gala awards night attended by leading industry figures and the media. Voting is open to registered Australian architects and closes on the 18th of September. '¨'¨
As a thank you for taking part, voters will go into a draw to win tickets for two to the gala event. Tickets can also be booked by contacting Think Brick Australia.
