A Transclimatic View

A new exhibition to 'transgress expectations' in climate change design.

In August this year Sydney will play host to an international design exhibition exploring how climate change has altered the way we design and live.

Transclimatic, part of Sydney Design 09, showcases the work of a number of emerging and very high profile artists, designers and architects, some of whom will be exhibiting in Australia for the first time.

Exploring global shifts in climatic conditions through “visionary design proposals”, the exhibition focuses on “radical speculations, bold visions and critical explorations, thereby disregarding the promotional 'green' responses evident today," says Creative Director, Frank Minnaërt.

Transclimatic will present a diverse selection of works, both theoretical and tangible. The exhibited projects aim to rethink and redefine our relationships with the natural and the artificial worlds and our responsibility for resources, waste and pollution.

Located within a “fabricated environment” in Customs House, Sydney, the exhibition will embrace the digital medium, employing computer renderings, videos, photos and diagrams.

Frank Minnaërt, Creative Director, is a practicing architect and a lecturer at the University of Technology Sydney.

The exhibition opens on 31 July 2009. For more information visit sydneydesign.com.au
