In today’s ever-changing working generation, productivity is the key to success and ergonomics can either make or break this.
As an industry, we have become more aware of the health risks associated with incorrect seating and improper working standards. And design mentalities – particularly related to furniture and spatial design – have evolved to combat this.
9to5 Seating, a US-based studio, design and produce world-class ergonomic seating to service the health and productivity needs of the modern workplace. Since 1986, the production of 9to5’s executive seating solutions has been driven by a design ethos that asserts ergonomic design as a worthy inclusion in all aspects of our working lives. Thanks to the keen eye of Australian design supplier, Stylecraft, 9to5’s seating ranges are now available to the local market.
Heading up this brand at Stylecraft is Nick Mallios, the recently appointed Brand Manager. Wanting to get more insight into how this innovative company operates we fired a few questions his way.
1. 9to5 has vertically integrated manufacturing – why is this important for product development and quality?
9to5’s vertically integrated business model essentially means that it has 10 factories under one roof. Every component from start to finish is manufactured by 9to5, meaning they can ensure the quality of the products because they control every aspect of the supply chain.
2. As agile working becomes more popular and people are less tethered to their desks – how do you see furniture stepping in?
In an agile workplace environment, the adaptability and performance of a task chair is more important than ever. 9to5’s weight balanced and synchronised mechanisms, adjustable lumbar and back height options, seat depth capabilities and armrest options ensure that individual user needs are met. Beyond this, seating with high stackability and nesting for ease of storage, together with transport trolleys, linking devices and under seat storage are all key features for today’s workplace environments.
3. What’s something Australian specifiers should know about 9to5?
9to5 is proud of its motto, ‘the difference is in the details’, and it really is. A lifetime warranty is offered on all structural and mechanical parts and a five-year warranty on leather, fabric and foam, so designers can rest assured that these products will stand the test of time for end users. We can also be assured by the commitment 9to5 has to sustainable and environmental business practices, as demonstrated with the high-level environmental certifications across its entire range.
