Steelcase acquires Viccarbe to bolster its offerings in the ancillary space

The acquisition is expected to drive strong social growth for Viccarbe, a Spanish designer of contemporary furniture for high-performance collaborative and social spaces.

For over a century, Steelcase has helped people have better experiences at work through its extensive portfolio of architecture, furniture and technology products. In order to provide solutions for the changing and emerging needs, the global company partners with other leading brands to enrich its portfolio.

Following its exclusive partnerships with Danish furniture brand Wendelbo and Singaporean home-grown player Commune earlier this year, Steelcase most recently acquired Viccarbe to strengthen its offerings in the ancillary space, and to provide the widest range of aesthetic choices and price points in the industry.

Apart from a more diverse range of products, customers will also have easier access to Viccarbe’s collections through Steelcase’s extensive network across the globe. With that being the case, Allan Smith, senior vice president and chief revenue officer at Steelcase expects to more than double the sales of the Viccarbe portfolio within three years.

Given Viccarbe’s track record of creating social and collaborative furnishings that consider the relationship between posture, privacy, proximity and personality to design spaces, Steelcase is confident that they will be commercially successful products that support new ways of working.

Viccarbe’s heritage and Spanish roots are a key part of its design story and brand positioning. “We inspire Mediterranean experiences in collaborative spaces through the creation of warm and timeless pieces,” says Victor Carrasco, founder of Viccarbe.

“The Viccarbe collection is the result of years of work in partnership with the most prestigious international designers [such as Jean-Marie Massaud, John Pawson, Piero Lissoni and Patricia Urquiola]. My dream has long been to expand our reach and impact in the world, and we are excited to achieve this together with Steelcase.”

This acquisition that builds on more than ten years of successful partnership between Viccarbe and Steelcase, says Samantha Giam, director of product marketing, Steelcase Asia Pacific, “is another initiative to help organisations create high-performance setups that bring their teams together, as we know the purpose of the workplace has changed and employees are returning to the ‘office’ to not just ‘get things done’ but to collaborate, ideate and socialise.”
