China is the best-represented foreign country among visitors to the Salone del Mobile in Milan. The Shanghai edition returns with high visitor numbers anticipated.
The fourth edition of the Salone del Mobile.Milano Shanghai will take place at the Shanghai Exhibition Centre from 20 to 22 November 2019 with 125 exhibitors. Italian brands will be well represented.
The three-day event, featuring luxury design and furnishings, will enable Chinese visitors to see the furnishing solutions showcased in Milan last April. Two exhibition streams will be featured: ‘Design’ (for products that marry function with innovation and good looks) and ‘xLux’ (for products that combine classical elegance with contemporary design).
Leading Italian architects and designers will share their thoughts and visions regarding the development of the sector in China and all over the world in a series of Master Classes. And SaloneSatellite Shanghai will return, giving young designers a shot at being awarded and invited to take part in the 2020 edition of SaloneSatellite in Milan.
The Salone organisers report that demand for ‘Made in Italy’ furnishings is steadily rising in China. Says Emanuele Orsini, President of Salone del Mobile.Milano Shanghai organiser Federlegno Arredo Eventi:
“The ability of Made in Italy furnishing to marry artisan quality with cutting-edge technologies and attentiveness to environmental concerns, is probably what has allowed us to attain even higher export quotas all over the world. China is no exception, with a growth rate from 2009 to 2018 nudging 500%.”
“Italy is, without doubt, the number one importer of furnishing to the Chinese market,” says Amedeo Scarpa, Director of the ICE (Italian Trade and Investment Agency) office in Beijing and Co-ordinator of the ICE offices in China and Mongolia.
He continues: “Exports of Italian furniture have risen by 13.34%, reaching a new high of 626 million USD in 2018. During the first 3 months of this year, Chinese imports from Italy grew 0.25%, for a value of 162 million dollars, despite the sharp fall in furniture imports from the major export countries. This is an extraordinary figure.”
It testifies to a strong, growing interest in the Italian lifestyle, he suggests.
Among the many Italian brands that will be on show at the Salone del Mobile.Milano Shanghai are: Antonio Lupi Design, Arflex, Arketipo, Artemide, Artemide Architectural, Barovier & Toso, Busnelli, Cattelan Italia, Cierre Imbottiti, Dada, Diesel, Ernestomeda, Flexform, Flexform-Mood, Flou, Foscsrini, Frag, Giorgetti, Kartell, Lema, Living Divani, Magis, Minotti, Miniforms, MissoniHome, MisuraEmme, Molteni & C., Moroso, Oluce, Penta, Poliform, Porada Arredi, Porro, R1920, Tacchini Italia Forniture and Visionnaire Home Philosophy.
Claudio Luti, President of the Salone del Mobile, says: “We have worked hard to ensure the involvement of brands best able to represent the processes of innovation and research that underpin our manufacturing and, especially, on identifying high profile interlocutors, visitors and buyers capable of understanding the intrinsic values of a vision that does not simply stop at the product and is suggestive of a particular lifestyle.”
The Salone del Mobile.Milano Shanghai will be an invitation-only event, with paid entry and compulsory pre-registration. There will be no ticketing on site. For more information, visit the Salone website.
