LEND LEASE, the leading global integrated property and infrastructure group, has announced the appointment of Paul King as Managing Director of Sustainability for its European region from February 2015.
September 12th, 2014
Paul will join Lend Lease from the UK Green Building Council (UK-GBC) where he is the Chief Executive Officer, providing leadership in sustainability across the property and construction sectors.
Sustainability is a core operating principle at Lend Lease and underpins its vision ‘to create the best places’. Lend Lease has a long and proud history of ensuring that environmental and social outcomes inform the way it provides property solutions. As part of that Lend Lease has a proven track record for supporting the establishment of Green Building Councils, rating tools and benchmarks to transform the built environment across the globe and Paul will be instrumental in building on this international leadership moving forward.
Paul will be responsible for the European region’s overall sustainability strategy, shaping its implementation and future direction. Today, Lend Lease has over (AUD) $23 billion (£12.65 billion) of major urban development projects targeting, or already achieving, green certification around the world. This includes three developments out of only 18 globally participating in the C40 Cities’ Climate Positive Development Program: Elephant & Castle in London, Barangaroo in Sydney and Victoria Harbour in Melbourne. Lend Lease’s residential business in Europe is rapidly establishing itself as a market leader, having won outline planning consent for 1,200 homes in Central London in the last 12 months alone.
Dan Labbad, Lend Lease’s Chief Executive Officer, International Operations, said: “This is an exciting appointment and I am delighted that Paul has chosen to join Lend Lease as we embark on our plans for international growth. Paul is a highly regarded and influential industry figure and is well equipped to build on Lend Lease’s commitment to creating buildings, infrastructure and places for people. His expertise across the property and construction industry will ensure that we continue to push the boundaries to find more innovative ways to meet the needs of a rapidly urbanising world.”
Paul King said: “I’m very excited to be joining Lend Lease next year, a global company with sustainability firmly embedded in its core values from the very beginning. Sustainability is about meeting the needs and aspirations of people in the future within environmental limits, and Lend Lease’s strategic focus on creating and regenerating the best places in cities around the world means ensuring those places will be genuinely sustainable for generations to come. I also look forward to continuing to support the Green Building Council movement through Lend Lease’s very active membership of this dynamic network.”
Paul has an enviable track record. His achievements at the UK-GBC include the launch of a successful campaign for Government to set a zero carbon target for non-domestic buildings; the development of the Pay As You Save concept for home retrofit; and the launch of a sustainability Leadership Programme for CEOs in the sector. Prior to the UK-GBC, Paul was Director of Campaigns at WWF-UK.
He will replace Pascal Mittermaier who is taking up a new not-for-profit position overseas.
