Melbourne Grammar School project takes out the 2009 Interior Design Awards.
May 6th, 2009
The winners of the 2009 Interior Design Awards were announced at a presentation in Melbourne on 1 May.
Supported by the Design Institute of Australia (DIA) the awards aim to “recognise and celebrate excellence in residential and commercial interior design”.
“The 2009 program has revealed a vibrant industry and some truly visionary interior design projects that have come to life,” says the Jacinta Reedy – Event Manager.
This year’s Premier Award – Interior Design Excellence and Innovation went to John Wardle Architects for their work on Melbourne Grammar School’s Nigel Peck Centre for Learning and Leadership.
“Melbourne Grammar School is a bold departure from the norm for an educational facility. An heroic gesture, laying bare its foundation and function for all to see, makes this project truly part of the city,” reads the Jury citation.
Carr Design took out the Residential Design Award for their Courtyard House: “We are delighted to have won this accolade in these prestigious awards. This residence reflects the team’s talents at producing innovative, fresh ideas and importantly constantly challenging the status quo,” says Carr Design Group Director, Sue Carr.
Matt Gibson A+D took out the Retail Design Award (pictured below and in puff) for their ’incubation retail’ space AKA ’the coop’. “The project reflects a resourceful use of materials; it is practical and honest but still encourages a unique retail experience. With quirky openings and a fresh, fun approach, this project is testament to the designer’s talent and ingenuity,” say the Jury.
