Last Thursday, CULT with Republic of Fritz Hansen hosted an intimate lunch to celebrate 60 years of the iconic Series 7, unveiling two Anniversary edition chairs as they did.
March 3rd, 2015
The small group of Australian media enjoyed lunch at Berowra Waters Inn, revamped by Glenn Murcutt. Fitted out with Series 7 chairs 40 years ago – and still is today – it was a fitting location, and a true testament to the longevity and legacy of this design icon.
Originally designed by legendary Arne Jacobsen in 1955, the Series 7 chair has been the single most poplar design piece in the history of Republic of Fritz Hansen. Through decades the strong, minimalist shape has stood the test of time. In fact, Republic of Fritz Hansen feels so strongly about the translatable nature of the original model, they have changed nothing about the design.
Instead 2015 sees the Republic of Fritz Hansen releasing two new colours that belong to Arne Jacobsen’s original colour scheme; a dark blue and a pale pink. Placed side by side, the chairs highlight and complement each other, drawing on the rules of attraction that is a current design trend.
The masculine edition features a dark blue lacquer shell and powder-coated burnished legs. As a stark contrast, the feminine version features a pale pink lacquer and 24-carat gold-plated legs. Both chairs have a mounted gold plate on the back of the seat to mark them as special edition pieces.
The Series 7 Anniversary Chairs will be available throughout 2015 only.
