The Lamex showroom looks set to dazzle at Hong Kong Indesign: The Event with an installation by PSI Asia that reflects the rhythmic movement of people in the high-density city of Hong Kong.
November 24th, 2013
Lamex have collaborated with international architectural firm PSI Asia to produce a large, dazzling and thought-provoking ceiling installation for the very first Hong Kong Indesign: The Event, and it promises to be a major draw come event day.
The installation is part of ‘The Project’, a platform that invites creative collaboration between Exhibitors and architects and designers in participating showrooms and locations across the city.
Since PSI’s inception 35 years ago, it has undertaken numerous notable projects in Hong Kong and Mainland China, with its scope of work extending to the Middle East and Southeast Asia. In the field of interior design, the firm focuses primary on the hospitality, corporate and banking sectors.
We speak with PSI’s Senior Associate (Interior Design), FY Leung, to find out more about the installation that will be gracing the Lamex showroom.

Tell us about your working relationship with Lamex. I understand that this is not your first collaboration with them?
Lamex is one of our choices for office furniture, and we’ve been working together on quite a number of projects for the past 20 years.
The Project theme is ‘Rhythm’. What were your thoughts when you first heard the theme?
The word ‘rhythm’ can relate to a lot of things. But in the Hong Kong context especially in the working environment, we can relate this to the office space and the density of the working population in different areas of the different districts in the city, and the movement of people from home to their place of work. This in itself creates a sort of pattern relating to population density in each district, and it is in itself a rhythm.

Tell us about the concept for your installation and what we can expect to see come event day.
In an abstract expression of this theme, what you will see is represented by a series of threads of different lengths grouped around a cluster of lights, suggesting the different and changing densities. And because of the different clusters and lengths of the threads coming down from the ceiling, a kind of rhythm is created through the wave-like arrangements of these clusters, and one can feel it while walking through the showroom, symbolising the busy working life in Hong Kong.

What has it been like working with Lamex on this project?
It’s been great. They are extremely helpful. Because we’ve been working with them for a long time now, we know how to work together, and we’re happy and excited about this new opportunity for collaboration.
