The iconic Fortuny lamp is now available with LED bulbs
December 8th, 2013
Designer Mariano Fortuny y Madrazo is best remembered as a celebrated painter from the late 19th century. Throughout his illustrious career, the Spanish artist was also known to have moonlit as a lighting engineer. One of his most prominent creation is the Palluco Fortuny lamp, first conceived in 1907.
The Pallucco Fortuny lamp was inspired by experimental stage lighting systems of that era. A camera tripod inspired the lamp base with its height-adjustable central leg, and over-sized stage reflectors gave birth to the iconic design of the lamp’s rotating shade.
In 2013, the Fortuny lamp receives a modern update while retaining its contemporary yet timeless design. The new lamps are equipped with LED bulbs, bringing the Fortuny lamp in line with current world energy-saving trends.
Like the conventional model, the new version comes in both classic (large) and petite sizes, and is fitted with dimmable, high-power LED bulbs. The Fortuny floor lamp has a steel framework in lacquered epoxy powder finish in black, white or titanium, with oversized shades made from cotton and linen.
The Fortuny lamp is carried in Hong Kong at colourliving.
