A holistic restaurant and workshop goes back to basics with a laid-back space on Hollywood Road. Tamsin Bradshaw checks it out.

Homegrown Hong Kong brand Grassroots Pantry has blossomed, thanks to a new restaurant and workshop at 108 Hollywood Road.
Grassroots Pantry is the brainchild of Chef and Owner Peggy Chan, who founded it in 2012 to bring locally produced, sustainable and organic ingredients, to Hong Kong. Chan’s first space was located in Sai Ying Pun, and as her business grew in popularity, she launched sister food concepts Prune Organic Deli & Workshop and The Alternative Caterer.

With the 108 Hollywood Road restaurant and workshop, Chan’s operations are consolidated under one beautiful roof, in a fresh and calm space that exemplifies the brand’s holistic philosophies. A mix of concrete, rustic wood and clean lines gives Grassroots Pantry’s new home a pared-down outlook, while tropical greenery on shelves and in corners keeps the vibe from getting too industrial.
Brass signage, concrete, raw wood and a mix of chairs give Grassroots Pantry a homespun feel
There are touches of brass to add warmth to the space, and Scandinavian-inspired elements give it a very contemporary feel. Adding visual interest is a beautiful wall feature, created by fellow homegrown design studio Latitude 22n. The mural is made up of recycled wood and ceramic pieces crafted into kitchen tools.

Visitors to the new Grassroots Pantry can enjoy plant-based, raw dishes and drinks, eating at communal tables in the relaxed, rustic restaurant.
