David Collins Studio envisages an opulently-decorated Sales Apartment for the Ritz Carlton Residences inside the forthcoming MahaNakhon in Bangkok, writes Christie Lee.

Indesignlive H0ng Kong has just gotten word that David Collins Studio is set to debut a string of high-profile commercial and residential projects in Asia as part of its expansion plans in the region. One particular project that is piquing our interest is the Ritz-Carlton Residences Sales Apartment that the London-based studio has conceived for the forthcoming MahaNakhon in Bangkok.
Comprising a living room, dining room, study room, a kitchen and separate staff quarters, the Sales Apartment takes design cue from the grandeur of the stately Manhattan apartment homes (think the Astors and Vanderbilts) and merges it with the studio’s penchant for unexpected pops of colour – or what the design firm dubs ‘minimalist luxury’.
The living room, a place of conversation and contemplation, is sumptuously decorated, with bespoke furniture pieces, silk velvet rugs and warm lighting dotting the area. Timber flooring further adds depth to an already texturally-rich space.
Described as “self-contained apartments”, the bedrooms are variously furnished with pristine white poster beds, banquettes and plush armchairs. En-suite bathrooms, decked out in marble and gold accents, and extensive walk-in closets completes the luxurious package.
A circular hallway, whereupon all rooms seemingly radiate from, enjoys sweeping views of the city.
Located on the upper floor, the dining is encased in a glass box, at once proffering an intimate environment (no smartphones at the table please!) and a bird’s eye view of the city. Meanwhile, darker woods project a more solemn atmosphere in the panelled study room. A carefully-curated selection of international art hangs on the walls. Measures have also been taken to ensure that locally-sourced and culturally-significant materials including the likes of silk, stone and lacquer be used in the rooms.
