Melbourne based furniture company Arthur G is celebrating its 35th anniversary this November 2015 as it enters a new phase of growth and market expansion.
October 16th, 2015
First established in 1979 by Greek immigrant Arthur Georgopoulos, Arthur G’s anniversary comes at an exciting time for the brand as it not only enjoys a new growth, but also a period of inspiring product development, including an ever increasing number of design projects and collaborations with some of Australia’s leading designers.
Now lead at the helm by Arthur’s son, Leonard Georgopoulos, this second-generation family business sees the zenith of Arthur’s innate and superb craftsman ability fused with the entrepreneurial skills and marketing prowess of Leonard. This fusion of craft and business, of form and function, has together propelled the company into the esteemed position it holds in Australia today.
“This is a business borne out of a deep passion, and my father has steadfastly built a prosperous business due largely to his dedication to uncompromising manufacturing standards and beautiful design which has purely and simply found an appreciative audience of consumers and designers alike, and which continues to grow to this day. It’s commitment to quality shining through in the truest sense”, says Leonard.
From inception to today, all items have remained firmly and proudly Australian designed and made by hand. In a world of increasingly fast moving consumerism and the rise of mass manufacturing, the Arthur G brand stands aside for something else; quality over quantity and the difference between craft and finish over speed and volume. “Our attention to detail marries seamlessly with our desire to fulfil design specifications to perfection, and where we not only make to order, but welcome individual customisation”, said Leonard.
Arthur senior, at the age of 68, remains an active part of the business, though has happily passed over the management reigns to Leonard, with the confidence his song will continue on the proud family legacy of the Arthur G name.
On going forward, Leonard says “There is something uniquely special about the refining of skills and the passing of knowledge over time…which I appreciate more than ever is an asset that can never be bottled or duplicated, but is at the very foundation of this company, and an integral part of our brand into the future”
