An abundance of up-and-coming architectural talent resides in the Indo-Pacific region, and this year, two winners have been recognised in the very special The Graduate category.
September 20th, 2022
With an outstanding group of submissions received for The Graduate in the 2022 INDE.Awards, two entrants have been awarded the top honour. The talented duo are Alyssa Aisyah from the University of Auckland, New Zealand/Aotearoa and Isabella Reynolds from the University of Queensland, Australia.
Among a diverse and exciting group of applicants from India, Hong Kong, Singapore, Australia and New Zealand, Aisyah and Reynolds scored top points for their singular and outstanding projects.
COLORBOND® steel, as supporter of The Graduate category, extends its congratulations to both of the winners. Michelle Gissel, marketing manager of Commercial and Civil Construction Australian Steel Markets comments on the two projects: “Alyssa Aisyah’s design really emphasises the connection of a structure within its environment and the link to traditions and culture.
“While Isabella Reynolds’ project skilfully features the equipment that facilitates sustainable outcomes within a build that would normally be hidden from view.”
With an amazing diversity in the submissions, the projects by Aisyah and Reynolds resonated with the jury to receive the winning accolade. Receiving recognition for their final year projects is a milestone for both in their respective professional journeys.
With sustainability front and centre in both submissions, Gissel reflects, “While creating engaging environments to work and relax in, these designs incorporated sustainable approaches within the core of the building.”
BlueScope, as Australia’s largest steel manufacturer, has long understood the responsibility entailed by being a major community employer and partner.
Creating strong communities is one of five pillars that underpin BlueScope’s approach to driving sustainable outcomes.
The other four pillars underpinning BlueScope’s approach to sustainability are creating safe and inclusive workplaces, responsible products and supply chains, climate change action, and building a sustainable and enduring business.
As a demonstration of its commitment to sustainability, BlueScope recently achieved ResponsibleSteel™ certification for its Port Kembla Steelworks.
ResponsibleSteel™ is the global steel industry’s multi-stakeholder sustainability standard and certification program, designed to ensure that customers, stakeholders and consumers can be confident that the steel they use has been sourced and produced responsibly.
The winning submissions of The Graduate category are two very different projects, but each has the environment at its heart – a sign that the future of architecture is in good hands.
Congratulations to Alyssa Aisyah and Isabella Reynolds for their winning projects and, respectively, to the University of Auckland, New Zealand/Aotearoa and the University of Queensland, Australia, for the support that each affords its students.
The Graduate accolade is the stepping stone for each student to make a mark on the architectural landscape, and we will watch as Aisyah and Reynolds forge their individual pathways in design in the future.
