This electrical appliance has the retro look all stitched-up
June 1st, 2012
What happens when you introduce one of the world’s leading premium home appliance brands and the heir to the FIAT auto company? A denim fridge!
Launched in Milan in 2012, this curious collaboration has already proven a firm favourite globally. The pure denim fabric that encases the fridge has a nano plasma technology applied to guard against stains and fading.
FIAT’s Lapo Elkann is the man responsible for this unconventional kitchen appliance and his remarkably successful design makes up just part of the 1950’s inspired collection of home appliances launched by SMEG.
Nationalistic patterns, this denim model and an array of vivid block colours are offered across all fridges, freezers, and washing machines that make up the nostalgic collection.
Whilst the aesthetic may be decidedly retro, the specifications and technical capabilities of the range are cutting-edge with automatic defrost, crystal glass quick-chill shelves, tropical mode, adjustable thermostat and 3.5 star energy rating.
