Curtin University Interior Architecture students let their imaginations run wild in a fun collaboration with Perth’s Table & Chair.
November 16th, 2011
Over the past 5 months, Table & Chair have been inviting Curtin University Interior Architecture students to design the showroom’s window display, teaming up their own products with items from the Table & Chair range.
The results have been a diverse mix of ideas, beautifully executed to demonstrate the great talent on tap at Curtin Uni.
Annalise Johnson’s Perspex chess table uses offcuts slotted together, making use of waste material and eliminating the need for chemical adhesives. The chess pieces – shaped like iconic buildings from around the world – are stored within the table.
Jack Tooley took a bore water lid and repurposed it, fitting it out with fluorescent tubes to create a unique decorative light source that can be moved and manipulated as desired.
Laura Stucken’s recycled furniture uses hardwood Victorian Ash recycled from timber pallets in her design, a slatted chair that can be used in a number of ways and quickly dissembled and recycled at the end of its life.
Valerie La Pegna turned old, discarded wooden chairs into an installation-type suspended light, resembling the previous form of the materials but serving a new purpose.
Vanessa Masson’s Little Miss Fickle lamp is constructed from reclaimed materials from Balcatta Recycling Centre, Albany Tip Shop and waste from the designer’s home, creating a simple, functional form out of redundant objects.
The students’ pieces will be showcased at Table & Chair’s end-of-year celebration on Thursday 1 December, with industry members voting for their favourite design.
