Aesop’s second Tokyo store continues the brand’s tradition of interiors with exposed, raw materials and recycled objects.
October 25th, 2011
Aesop opened its second Tokyo store, on Renga Dori in Ginza, on 13 September 2011. The fit-out is a collaboration between Aesop Creative Manager Hiroko Shiratori and Jo Nagasaka of Schemata Architecture, who also designed Aesop’s first Japanese signature store in Aoyama.
Aesop store interiors tend to focus around one material, and in this case Nagasaka has chosen red brick. A deliberate nod to the street’s informal name – Red Brick Street – Nagasaka has also chosen a utilitarian material rarely used in Japan, exploring its possibilities for a new audience.
Bold and pragmatic, with raw and rustic touches – including an old copper sink that harks back to the early days of plumbing – Aesop Ginza is another in an impressive line of visually striking and imaginatively designed stores worldwide.
