Laruche raises the bar in Brisbane’s Fortitude Valley
October 29th, 2009
Renowned as Brisbane’s party (and design – wouldn’t you know it!) district, Fortitude Valley has undergone further transformation with the opening of Laruche Bar & Supperclub.’¨
Owner Elie Moubarak joined forces with designer Remo Vallance – the pair having worked together on Moubarack’s Lychee Lounge.
“We did three months of relentless research, and I had done probably six to nine months of research prior to myself and Remo getting together, therefore we knew exactly what we wanted,” Moubarack says.
Commissioning a number of artists and designers, Moubarack has created a space with a vibrant and rich colour palate, with unique wallpapers by KT Doyle and artist Jennie Jackson, fantastic glass chandeliers and lights by glass blower Lucal Salton and intricate woodwork by Ian Windross.
“They were relentless in their pursuit of creating something beautiful for them and for me as the client. They are passionate and proud of what they do, thus delivering an exceptional result, which they are more then happy to attach their name and reputation,” Moubarack explains.
The word ‘eclectic’ may not do justice to this fit-out, but there is a warmth here, a cave-like, inward-looking atmosphere, scattered with movie-set versions of objects you’d find in your grandmother’s house. ’¨
Moubarak says the interiors “swing wildly between the beautiful, the macabre and the decadent”, with wallpaper, stairwell, glass features or other original artwork contributing in equal parts.
Hidden by a humble exterior, visitors are in for a surprise once they enter the double storey venue in the heart of the Valley.
