Now installed, these landscape benches were designed as part of the redevelopment by Cox Architects of the Senior School of Wesley College, on the Glen Waverley Campus, Melbourne.
In addition to providing an elegant solution to the structure of commonly dull wooden benches, the edgy design is dual purposed, designed to prevent intrusion into the existing tree roots.
While the benches have been designed specifically for this context, their utility and manner of fabrication makes them an effective prototype for wider application across other parts of Wesley College, and they will form part of this wider programme of landscape amenity improvement.
The benches have been crafted from recycled spotted gum timber. The structure is a simple galvanised frame, which is cost effective, durable and low-maintenance, all very relavent to a school budget.
