Nudie Jeans’ steadfast, sustainable ethos extends into this Indonesian pop-up store, lacquered in locally sourced timber.
February 17th, 2025
Nudie Jeans are staunchly resolute in their sustainable mission, so it is no surprise that the brand translates this ethos into their tangible stores. The Pop-Up Repair Store by X+O, with a locale in Grand Indonesia, represents the durability and resilience behind the denim. Conceived as an exercise in amalgamating Japanese and Scandinavian aesthetics, the store design is likewise driven by the principles of finding beauty in imperfection and deep connections to nature. As such, the design itself reflects the ethos Nudie Jeans was built upon.
With a focus on three core pillars – simplicity, comfortability and sustainability – the store is permeated with Nudie Jeans’ identity. Upon entry, a palette of natural and warm materiality lacquers the space and forms the signature stacked denim wall. Locally sourced, Indonesian teak solid wood blocks line the centre of the store. The shelves, also conceived of locally sourced Indonesian wood, extend up to the ceiling.
The framed repair station, orientated in the window, showcases the commitment by Nudie Jeans to forever repairs and is lined with durable, green-certified homogenous tiles, also recognisable at the sales counter. Meanwhile, a private fitting room area, located at the rear of the provisional boutique, features a lounge space delineated by vintage, repurposed furnishings.

A plethora of materials have been reused and recycled as part of the wider project transitioning from pop-up to permanent store. This includes joinery including, covering an extensive range of functions in the space – denim cubbies, hang rails, floor joinery displays, peg boards, mirrors, artwork, light fittings and track lights, as well as a glass wall divider. Similarly, curtains and stools have been repurposed alongside a sewing machine table, artwork and even shopfront signage. New items include wood wool panels in the ceiling, new shopfront framing and glazing, and a new tiled floor.
After the arduous effort that went into the fit-out and the dedication to design and craftsmanship, it only seemed fitting that at the end of its pop-up tenure, the brand decided to repurpose the shop into a permanent location — avoiding landfill waste and further reflecting Nudie Jeans’ sustainability ethos. Like a good pair of jeans, the Nudie Jeans Repair Shop was the perfect fit for Grand Indonesia.
