Australian design shines in this year’s nominees.

The 2010 Brit Insurance Design Awards have announced the nominees for the third edition of the annual awards.
Industry experts nominate the most compelling and progressive designs of the year across seven categories: architecture, fashion, furniture, graphics, interactive, product and transport.
Among the nominees for architecture are the MAD Architects ’Hutong Bubble 32’ in Beijing and the Melbourne Recital Centre and MTC Theatre Project by Ashton Raggatt McDougall (see images).
Representing Australia In the furniture category, Helen Kontouris’ ’Breathe Furniture’, an outdoor collection, and the geometic seating units ’Polytopia’ by Lucas Chirnside make notable appearances.
The shortlisted designs will be on show at the Brit Insurance Designs of the Year Exhibition at the Design Museum from 17 February until 6 June.
From this comprehensive list, the jury will select the seven category winners to be announced on 4 March.
The finalists will then find out who will win the overall Brit Insurance Design of the Year 2010 at the Awards Dinner on 16 March.
