Superstudio is a pioneer of the FuoriSalone neighbourhood phenomenon during Milan Design Week. We take a look at what’s lined up this year at the enormous Superstudio Piu. Our advice: Wear comfortable shoes!
March 28th, 2017
Tapping on trends in design, art, fashion, decoration, food and graphics, ‘Time To Color!’ is this year’s theme for the Superdesign Show at Superstudio Piu in the Tortona district.
This year the Superstudio team (lead by Gisella Borioli, with artistic direction by architect Carolina Nisivoccia) is placing greater emphasis on crossovers between art and design, industry and handcraft, tradition and future, simplicity and magnificence. And as always, there’ll be a phenomenal amount to see.
Industrial design, ‘art-design’, artefacts, technology, automotive design, decor, textiles, ornaments, 3D printing and everything that design proposes in step with times – that’s what you can expect to find.
Among the big names presenting there are: LG with a futuristic light installation designed by Tokujin Yoshioka; PepsiCo with Mathieu Lehanneur, Luca Nichetto, Fabio Novembre, Studio Job, Patricia Urquiola and more (presenting an exploration of how food and drinks are experienced in our hyper-connected society); AGC Asahi Glass in collaboration with Jin Kuramoto and Raw-Edges studio; Sunbrella with French artist and photographer Charles Pétillon; and Keio University with technical solutions to everyday needs in an interactive exhibition curated by Manabu Tago.
At the entrance of Superstudio Più, in the Art Square, will be an installation by Particia Urquiola Studio for 3M, focusing on the importance of protecting memories for the future through the union of architecture, design and materials. Elsewhere, Gore-Tex will make use of virtual reality to communicate the use and comfort of its material. And a selection of colourful gif art will be on display as a preview to theGifer festival (Turin, November 2017).
All up, expect some 17,000 square metres of exhibition space. Yes, we really meant it when we said ‘comfortable shoes’!
