Given that the Asia Hotel Design Awards was an event to recognise the best hotels in Asia, it was certainly fitting that the ceremony was held at The South Beach, itself one of the latest statement hospitality landmarks to open in Singapore.
The results were announced on the evening of 10 March, with over 400 prominent members of industry from across the region gracing the glittering ceremony.
The highest honour, “The Asia Hotel Design of the Year”, was handed to Phum Baitang, Siem Reap, Cambodia. Designed by AW2, the project also took home a total of three other awards that evening.
In addition to honouring hospitality projects in Asia, the awards also paid recognition to Indonesian hotelier Adrian Zecha, one of the world’s leading creators and operators of award-winning luxury hotels and resorts.
Commenting on this year’s event, Matt Turner, Editor-in-Chief of Sleeper Magazine, the organiser of the awards, said: “This year’s awards had an incredible response from the hotel design community across the Asia-Pacific region. Over 130 entries were received from 60 projects in twelve different countries. The quality and diversity of the nominated projects is a real testament to the creativity and professionalism of the designers and architects involved… We were also honoured to be able to acknowledge Adrian Zecha’s outstanding contribution to the industry over the past five decades.”
Members of this year’s judging panel included Khirstie Myles from IHG (Chair of Judges); Christine McGinnis, WATG/Wimberly Interiors; Carsten Lima, Design Hotels; Andre Fu, AFSO; Brian Lum, Hyatt; Loh Lik Peng, Unlisted Collection; Brian Williams, Swire Hotels; and Guy Heywood, Alila Hotels, just to name a few.
