Having established a cult-like following throughout Europe, Northern America and Australia, Space Furniture has finally brought the beautiful designs of Italy’s Edra to Singapore. The collection is available now at Space Furniture’s Singapore showroom.
“I like it when someone creates a beautiful object that is also functional because it becomes something that is a pleasure to use,” says Valerio Mazzei, Edra Founder & President “Beauty and functionality, elegance and timelessness must live together.”
The story of Edra’s elegance and functionality begins in the hills of Tuscany, where the picturesque beauty of the region inspired the Mazzei family, who have been producing furniture honouring the history of the region since 1949.
In 1987, Valerio Mazzei formally established the Edra brand, which continues to be a family-run, forward-thinking and inspiring furniture business – blending high-end technology with traditional craftsmanship.
The newly curated Edra gallery at Space Singapore is inspired by the Spazio Edra space in Milan, an area designed to showcase the specific characteristics and qualities of the curated Edra collection with extraordinary emotion. The area within Space’s store for showcasing Edra’s collections allow guests to feel enveloped in the atmosphere and warmth of the company.
On display in the Singapore showroom is a curated selection of Edra’s classic pieces including the famous Favela, Vermelha and Getsuen armchairs. The Scringo cabinet and three of their best-selling sofas; the On the Rocks, Standard, and Grande soffice.
“Edra really holds a place in all our hearts, not only for its warm hospitality and integrity as a brand, but for its commitment to always embracing new design,” says Group CEO for Space Furniture, Christina Owyong, “Never resting on its laurels, or following a predictable route, Edra forges ahead with its own narrative, trusting its instinct and pursuing truly original concepts with painstaking production, peerless quality and the best in Italian craftmanship.”
With its name taken from the Greek word έδρα, meaning a place for philosophical discussion, the Edra brand imbues this sense of reflection in all its collections. The Edra becomes a seat, a place to sit, and by extension, a home for one to reflect and relax in.
With work from designers as varied as Italy’s Alessandro Mendini, Japan’s Masanori Umeda, Brazil’s Humbero Campana and many more including legendary architect Zaha Hadid, Singapore’s design loving community have many a reason to celebrate.
“Beauty has always been something to respect, and to respect it we have to give it continuity, not betray it with commercial rules” – Valerio Mazzei
