Designed more than half a century ago, the Pollock Arm Chair from Knoll has now made its entry back into the market.
January 21st, 2016
When it came to designing chairs, the late Charles Pollock had intently focused on three core factors: structure, durability and visual style. This approach is exemplified in the Pollock Arm Chair, originally introduced by Knoll between 1964 – 1979.
Previously referred to as Model 657, or the ‘sling chair’, the Pollock Arm Chair can be thought of as an intuitive response to the sitter’s needs. A distinctive polished-chrome steel tube structure supports the suspension of the seat, sculpted out of heavy natural cowhide. A soft seat pad reinforces comfort. Defined by a subtle linear profile, the design classic fits both the home and office.
It was in fact the Pollock Arm Chair that initiated Pollock’s longstanding design relationship with Knoll – Florence Knoll declared the chair’s design as ‘gold’ when she viewed it for the first time. Transcending the test of time, the design classic remains relevant and modern even today.
As Pollock had famously said, “Give them something that never goes out of style; it never wears out.”
