Rattan With a Twist from Point

A new collection of outdoor furniture from Spanish brand Point brings strength and softness to the great outdoors.

Rattan With a Twist from Point

Round collection by Francesc Rifé

Founded by Jose Pons Pedro in 1920, Spanish furniture brand Point specialises in outdoor furniture made with natural fibres. In its early years, Point relied solely on handcrafting to manufacture its products. Then in 1970, the brand grew into an industrial enterprise.

This was thanks to the second generation of the Pons family who successfully harnessed 50 year’s worth know-how in rattan crafting into commercial production.

At the beginning of the ’80s, Point responded to new legislation that banned the export of raw materials imposed by the governments of countries in South East Asia (where the brand source its rattan). Point outsourced its manufacturing and become a multinational company.

Now managed by the third generation of the Pons family, Point has established itself as one of Spain’s leading outdoor furniture brands with long-lasting and timeless collections designed by a strong roster of international designers. Point has even developed its own signature synthetic rattans with enhanced durability called Shintotex.

And their products have made it to Singapore’s shores thanks to The Beuro. Point’s 2017 collection showcases the expert use of twisted fibre materials and offers a great versatility.

Designed by Francesc Rifé, the Pal collection features generous upholstered modules placed on a solid teak platform. The user has the freedom to arrange and rearrange the modules to suit their needs.

For the Weave seating collection, designer Vicent Martínez took inspiration from the Baya Weaver bird – a crafty bird native to South Asia that painstakingly weaves twigs into a teardrop-shaped hanging nest. Similarly, the backrests of the chairs and armchairs in the collection are made with braided rope.

Point’s long-time collaborator and award-winning designer Gabriel Teixidó created two collections this year. Tub is a family of seating and tables made with aluminium that has the distinct visual character of straight lines and curves. Named after a wide-eared desert fox, the Fennec collection features enveloping armrests made with Point’s signature Shintotex weaving.

Joining this new collection are Point’s perennial favourites, including Rifé’s Round and Hamp collections. Round harmoniously marries a solid teak structure with aluminium and Shintotex to bring softness and familiarity to the great outdoors. Hamp does so with Burmese teak that has a rounded profile. All Point products come with a five-year warranty.
