ONG&ONG designs a new, dynamic lighting concept for Trinity@Paya Lebar church.
May 5th, 2014
When dusk arrives, Trinity@Paya Lebar engages with its surrounding in a whole new way where light is used as a metaphor for the connection between the church and its community, as well as a medium to arouse feelings of curiosity and contemplation.
Just like how the folding planes and colour of the church’s facade are inspired by the canyons of the Israeli deserts, the new lighting concept conceived by ONG&ONG also carries the narratives of nature. The animation and vibrancy of the colours used are meant to mirror the dynamism of the sky. Moving colours and projected patterns also add a new dimensional quality to the facade’s faceted surface, which is further enhanced when the darker panels recede into themselves as the coloured lights fall onto the light beige walls.
The narrative continues to unfold with the progress into the central courtyard where the play of light enhances one’s enjoyment of the garden and water features.
Against the backdrop of the relatively quiet, semi-industrial surroundings, the facade’s pre-programmed scenes serve to broadcast messages of faith and joy to onlookers while transforming the church into a new landmark in the neighbourhood.
