Hayball, one of Australia’s leading multi-disciplinary design practices, has announced the appointment of David Tordoff as Studio Director of its Sydney office.
October 29th, 2015
Tordoff brings to the table experience in small and large firms across Australia and the UK, predominantly in the areas of multi-unit residential and education, in addition to delivering projects in the hospitality and commercial sectors.
Tordoff has claimed a number of awards to his name including the AIA Sulman Medal for public architecture, multiple UDIA Awards, and globally, joining the ranks of architects shortlisted for the World Architecture Awards.
Managing Director, Tom Jordan, welcomed Tordoff’s depth of architectural expertise and interpersonal skills to Hayball’s growing Sydney practice, commenting that David’s appointment will help the practice cement its footprint on the eastern seaboard.
“We believe the Sydney market holds powerful potential for some of Hayball’s key strengths, particularly our focus on placemaking and the public realm. Combined with our ongoing research into the residential market and our detailed understanding of economic construction techniques, we are ideally positioned to offer a higher value service to our clients,” says Tom. “There’s also our capability to transfer our knowledge between the residential and education sectors, and David will play a key role in the organisation’s strategic growth in these markets.”
Hayball is known for being critically engaged in research projects and placemaking, as well as creating buildings that offer the high levels of amenity. Its Sydney office will uphold and enhance this expertise, working in tandem with the Melbourne studio to draw on its demonstrated capabilities.
David Tordoff said he is excited about the opportunity to grow the Hayball team and brand in Sydney. “I’m thrilled to be given the chance to work amongst some of the most creative, design oriented minds in the architecture space, and to be able to put my own stamp on the business as it takes flight in Sydney.”
